Weekend Fun times

I hope you've all had a super fun weekend, mine has been pretty amazing! I had my hair cut and coloured and got new green extensions, had lunch with Ria and another friend Alice and then Emi and I went to a belly dance class with Wellington Pink Ladies which was heaps of fun - I used to do belly dance YEARS ago and the class made me seriously consider if I should go back to it.

Finally we rounded off the evening with a dinner with our friend Ross and we watched "The Grey"  which was really good as well! I'd recommend it - the scenery in Alaska was so beautiful (at times, other times it was incredibly bleak!).

Today was a stunner of a day and in the morning Rich and picked up a couple of bagels and headed out to Otari-Wilton Bush to eat some lunch in the sunshine and have a walk.

Made-by-me May has been pretty well, but I am now coming to the conclusion I really need to make more things to wear! I was hoping to make something this weekend but I was just so busy. I must try and get started on a project this week.

But I did at least try to adjust my maxi frock that I made to wear in Asia at the start of the year to the Wellington Autumn. I'm not sure if I quite pulled this look off though - again I think the shoes look a little weird. What do you guys think? I'm still a little unconvinced I can wear this dress in the cooler Wellington weather!

My Weekend - The Weather Bomb!

This weekend we had a much talked about "weather bomb" in New Zealand, actually in Wellington we were pretty lucky. Sure the weather was horrible but there was no damage. Up where my parents live there was a lot of damage - people lost the roof off their houses and also saw some photos where the whole hay shed had blown away leaving the hay behind. Crazy stuff.

Anyway onto my weekend, which despite said weather bomb was pretty good. On Saturday morning I went and had my hair coloured and go new extensions at Wildilocks - I now have turquoise extensions.

The I met up with Ria for a spot of lunch and we went to Minerva Books as Ria was looking for a book about Elizabethan costuming for her course. She didn't end up buying anything but I found the Queen of Crafts which is such an amazing craft book and I find it so inspiring! I now want to dye dye, may domino shaped petit fours and my own fondant, make a herb garden, throw and tea party and make jam and chutney. I love craft books that inspire you to try new things - I am going to start this weekend with the petit fours.

Later in the afternoon/evening my friend Emi came over for a crafting night - it was the prefect weather for it! I even finished the dress made from the evil slippy material and I am going to wear it this Friday for a casino night fundraiser we are going too so you will all see it then.

Emi bought over ears for us to wear whilst we crafted - I'm actually a devil though - she's Hello Kitty - yah!

Emi didn't know it when she came over but she was joining us on the most exciting night of all - the night of the green zombie brain jelly mould! I was pretty excited!

I almost couldn't resist, zombie Trees was coming to the surface, but I held off and shared the zombie brain with Emi and Rich. It was lime flavoured.
Emi also bought me these super rad nail transfer things - I like them a whole lot and can't wait to try them out. The picture isn't so great but they are spider webs!!It was still cold, wet and miserable on Sunday. But we had been planning on attending the Newtown fair for ages (after all it only happens once a year!) and the webpage said that that faitr was going ahead rain or shine so we wrapped up warm and headed along.

There were loads of musicians and other acts at the fair which was a lot of fun - loads of free music and performances.



I loved this band, Rich and I have seen them before but I can't remember the name (oops) . One of the guys in the band was wearing a scarf as a hat and partway through the song it fell over his eyes, the funniest part was the vocalist saw it and looked like he was seconds away from breaking out into fits of hysterical laughter.
There were loads of cute stalls - but I especially loved this one where the girl had made loads of cute Japanese style charms - too cute!

Whenever I go to a market I usually end up buying one accessory - this market was no different, I walked away with a ring! Isn't it awesome!
Animal hats were also very popular at the fair - I liked this unicorn hat. There was also a donkey hat that was pretty cool.
There were loads of places to eat at the fair - but this place wins for the best name. I've actually seen these folks at a few events around town.

Rich bought one of Fritz's Weiners - turns out Fritz has big weiners....

Meanwhile I just tried not to lose my hat to the wind whilst we were watching some music.

New Hair - Pink!

The wearing of glasses continues, I can't wait till next Friday, cross your fingers that I will be able to get back into wearing contacts by then.

Today I went to the hairdressers, I wasn't sure what colour I wanted for my extensions when I went in but I decided on magenta. What do you all think?

New Season, New Colour

It's finally September which means it is officially spring! I am pretty happy about all this, although I can't complain too much about the winter we have had, as overall its been especially mild this year.

However with the arrival of spring and my upcoming trip to Melbourne I decided it was time to say farewell to the green extensions and get something new for the new season.

I decided whilst I was at my salon this time I would take a couple of photos - I have been going to Wildilocks on Cuba Street since the start of the year and its such a great salon. They also sell clothes and accessories. Here's a wee shot of the salon from my chair out to the front window.

This visit they had added some of these "mounted heads" to the salon, complete with Mexican "day of the dead" style make-up. I liked them a whole lot, this is the lady that looked over me whilst I was having my hair done.
Here's what synthetic hair extensions look like before they are attached to someone's hair. I decided I wanted blue again this time, but a sky blue/turquoise rather than the electric blue I had last time. Although the hairdressers didn't have quite the colour I wanted, in the end I decided a blend of these two colours would work out just fine.

Here's the final result of my Saturday trip to the hairdressers - blue hair extensions! I like them rather a lot.

Going Green

My extensions we getting a little bit past it, so this weekend it was time for a trip to the hairdresser and for the month of July I've decided to go green. The colour I have is actually a blend of two different greens and I am pretty happy with it. Although I do wear a lot of red - so here's hoping I don't end up looking like a Christmas Tree.

Today Rich and I went to the Waitangi Park Markets for a spot of lunch in the sun. Wellington has a reputation for having terrible weather, and as I am from further up north originally I have to admit that at times the weather is a bit much to take. But then in the middle of winter we have a day like this and it makes it all worth it!

Pink & Purple!

This morning I went to the hairdresser, for my usual hair cut, colour and of course new extensions! This month the colour of choice is a pink and purple blend. I knew today I was going to get pink - to start with I was thinking maybe a mix of bright pink and cotton candy pink. But my hairdresser suggested this mix of cotton candy pink and lavender (well - its sort of lavender). I really like it! Its so much fun getting new extensions each visit to the hairdresser and I love the far extensions don't fade - synthetic hair rocks.

After I had finished at the hairdresser I headed to the Fringe Markets. It seems to be a little post hairdresser ritual I have developed - visit hairdresser then head to the Fringe markets to pick up something which matches my new hair. This time I picked up this adorable hand knitted cardy - the photo doesn't do it justice. It is so warm which is what I need with the winter setting it and its so cute. After the Fringe Markets I headed to Ghuznee Street, I needed to go the the craft store but on the way I stopped here. This little caravan has been around since I returned to Wellington in December. I have never ventured inside before and decided today was the day to check it out.
