Weight Watchers

OMG I start Weight Watchers tonight & I am really quite anxious!! At least I am going with Jess so she knows the ropes and all - I just get the felling the whole thing is going to be a bit stressful!

But I will be worth it if it works for me in the long run....but I think I may have a steep road ahead....at least I have a goal in mind.........

General Yarn

My post from the Big Day Out seemed to go a bit crazy - so here's a picture of Rich and I at the big day out - Rock on.

So the new job seems to be going really well - except for the fact that it sounds like I may be losing my room with a view shortly!! The room actually belongs to one of the higher ups that has taken on another role temporarily and she is due to take it back over in a month - so I sounds like I will have a office - but I don't think I will have a view any longer:(

I'm going to buy an ipod today (or some other MP3 playing type thingee) in an attempt to make the gym workouts a lot less boring!! I'm joining weight watchers on Monday as I am seriously depressed about my size right now - I have a goal in mind - so hopefully it will work for me. I have lost a lot of weight in the past year or so but I think I really need some support to get to where I need to be right now - and I seriously need some more advice on what to eat and what not to eat.

Other things that have been happening in the world of Teresa - I've signed up to be a volunteer at the Welligton Fringe Festiva l - which should be wicked cool!! Hopefully I will get to meet some cool new people and go to some of the shows for free or something - yah!!

The other thing I'm going to do is the "Around the Bays" - it's not till Feb sometime but I always meant to do the whole "Around the Bays" thing in Auckland but I never really got there - so looking foward to doing it in Wellington - yah!

Well I best be off - need to go and search for my ipod type thing......

I have an office!!

I finally have an office - not a "cubicle" an office!! But this office is only a temporary office - however I will be getting another office of my own soon. My office even has a view - of the motorway!! But it's still a view!

I actually started doing work yesterday too on my first day - but it was actually interesting stuff - yah:)

It's raining today and it's not warm either - this has been a very strange summer.

Ross didn't end up coming over yesterday because of the rain - hence the blog is still acting a little crazy. Grrr...

First Day at new job

I have that nervous sinking feeling in my stomach like the first day back at school after the summer holidays when you don't know who is going to be in your class or who your teacher will be. I'm sure I'll be fine when I actually get to my new job - I don't have to start till 8:30 today but my normal starting time will be 8:00 - ew!!

Also the blog is still acting insane - if you search adventuresofagirlfromthenaki.blogspot.com all my recent posts come up - but if you put "www" in the front my recent posts don't come up - it's VERY strange...

Ross is coming over for tea tonight - he knows lots about computer type stuff - I'll see if he can fix it....

Blog Frustration

This blog has been driving me totally crazy today!! I did a huge write up about the BDO - with photos and everything - and it just didn't want to publish the post for whatever reason!! Kept on telling me the HTML was wrong or something - If you know anything about computers - it's likely you could fix it in a couple of minutes - I however, know nothing about computers and it has been driving me crazy.

I asked Rich to help me out - and he got it working somehow - or so we thought...

But now the post isn't there - this is driving me crazy!! I hate technology!!

THE BIG DAY OUT!!

I finally have a chance to sit down and write about the BDO!! As per usual it was a pretty crazy day with heaps of running around trying to see as many bands as possible - although I never seem to be able to see all of the bands I want to see!!

However - the bands I did manage to see were -

Deja Voodoo

I've seen these guys at the BDO for the last three years - and they are always so funny!! They had a couple of new songs as well so I guess that they must be working on a new album - my favourite new song was "History Never Deletes" too funny. Also did all the great old school songs like Beers, We are Deja Voodoo, Today Tommorrow Timaru, Feelings.....wicked! Unfortunatly for some reason - I don't seem to have a picture of Deja Voodoo - I was sure I took one or two - but I must have forgot - bummer:(

The Greenhornes

These guys were for the States and I had never heard of them before the BDO - but that's what the BDO is all about I guess. They had quite a bluesy sound at times - and a song that sounded a hell of a lot like Tom Petty - they were pretty entertaining all around - their performance didn't make me fall in love with them and want to go out and buy their CD or anything but quite cool:)

Pluto

I love Pluto - they are one of my favourite kiwi bands - I remeber the first time I saw them with with Rich at Altitude in Hamilton and there were only about 20 people there - I remeber thinking at the time that it really sucked as they are such a cool band! But a lot more than 20 people were watching them at the BDO and they were on one of the main stages too which was cool. Played a whole bunch of songs from Red Light Syndrome and Pipe Line Under the Ocean. Very cool.

After Pluto we decided to go and eat before it was too late to do so - we also managed to catch Sue & Sarah over at the food tents as we had lost them at the markets when Sue went to buy some ear plugs.

After lunch we hung out about a bit - saw a bit of Sleater-Kinnley but we weren't that close - just hanging out at the back - we were going to see the Magic Numbers - but there seemed to be a huge influx to see them so decided to give them a miss as we weren't totally bursting to see them or anything.

We decided to head over to the homegrown stage and see what was happening.

The Bats

While we were over at the Homegrown stage The Bats played - which was awesome! Old School Flying Nun - there's nothing quite like it! When they played North By North I was so excited - there performance was wicked -I was so glad we went and saw them.

The Go! Team

The Go! Team was another band that I had never heard of before - and they were so awesome!! There were a whole bunch of people in the band (apparently the two guys from 2 Many DJ's are part of the go team as well) - they had loads of instruments - two drumkits! and an awesome front woman who could not only sing but was also a wicked dancer - I will buy these guys CD because I thought they were wicked!

The Brunettes

When we showed up at the Brunettes there seemed to be like a million people on stage with all sorts of crazy instruments - so it was an extended Brunettes line up. There performance was really good but short because the front man seems a bit like a troubled musical genuis or something - he kept of running between the sound desk and the stage trying to get everything sorted and also kept on looking over the sound desk guys during the performance...so it was a while before the band actually started playing. My favourite part was when the band put on Mary Kate & Ashley Masks - nice. The worst part was the crazy off his face that came and danced in front of us as if he was at a rave (The Brunettes bubble gum pop is not raving music!!) and exclaiming to his mate loudly - "it's like cool how they have a full orchestra and shit eh..???" - why must the crazy people always dance in front of me!!!

After the Brunettes decided that we should really eat before we take on the Franz Ferdinand/Iggy Pop/White Stripes - as it was pretty clear that the rest of the night was going to be pretty full on!! So after waiting for what seemed like a million years for a chicken pita bread and drink - we finally caught up with the rest of the posse and headed down to check out Franz Ferdinand.

Franz Ferdinand

I think that Franz were my favourite band of the BDO - their performance was so well polished they were awesome and when they played "Take Me Out" the whole crowd got into it. I was also wicked when the drummer started playing the drum kit backwards....very cool - only problem was yet another off his face munter in front of us - how do we attract these people!!

Iggy Pop

This was wicked - all I wanted to hear him play was "I wanna be your dog" and they played it twice - too cool. Especially when he pulled a whole bunch of people from the crowd up to dance with him on stage - some people have all the luck!

The White Stripes

The White Stripes are a band I have been wanted to see for ages - there was talk that they might not come to NZ as Jack White had hurt his throat or something and had cancelled a whole lot of post BDO gigs - I think this is why they left the stage mid set and had everyone thinking "what is that it??!!". They did their version of Jolene - which I've heard a bit about and it was very cool.

After the White Stripes decided to head home - and in my case - recover from some bad sunburn - ouch!!

Fort Street!

Three of my friends have made comments about the fact that the backpackers we are staying at for the Big Day Out is on Fort Street - apparently the whole area is frequented by ladies of the night - I figure it can't be any worse than certain areas of Wellington - still it should be interesting. Apparently showboys and showgirls is on Fort Street...humm....

I did the Big Day Out shopping today, bottled water, snacks, tissues, spare camera batteries....

I think it will be a very busy couple of days - tommorrow I will be catching up with a whole bunch of Auckland people - Charlotte, Alaina, Sarah, Ekant, Conor, Sue, Chaykham and Jonnie - then Friday it's the Big Day Out - I think we are hanging out with Ekant and Unicia on Saturday morning - Saturday night we have to ourselves - then on Sunday it's Celia & Simon's engagement party - my first engagement party this year!! Thank God that Monday is Wellington Anniversary - it will give me a chance to chill out before the first day of my new job on Tuesday!!

Hummm....I think that the relaxing times are now officially over!!

The Big Day Out Posse Grows!!

I had an e-mail from my old school friend Sarah today telling me that her mates that she was going to the BDO with haven't arranged leave so she is now coming along with us - wicked!! I haven't had such a BDO posse in years :)

Also today - proof that miracles do in fact happen - I actually cleaned the lounge - OMG!

Spend most of the rest of the day hanging with my cousin Mel and her boyfriend - she's invited Rich and I to a dinner in a few weeks when my other cousin comes down from New Plymouth to see 50 Cent. Wicked.

Second Day of Holiday

I've not actually got much to say - as I have been on Holiday -ahhh...sweet holiday...it does go by so quickly though - especially when you are sleeping in!!

Meeting my cousin up at Kelburn at 12:30 for lunch and then I have to go into town and get a few things - in particular a box to send my brothers birthday present in.

Tommorrow I'll have to do my Big Day Out shopping and get some snacks and water and everthing else we will need!!

Ross is coming tonight for dinner - will be good to see him as we haven't seen him for ages....

Anyhoo I better go dry my hair and get organised so I can go and have lunch:)

Yes summer DOES exist in Wellington

I was seriously beginning to doubt that summer existed in Wellington - especially when I had soup and a hot chocolate for lunch last week!! Soup for lunch in January - that's crazy talk!! But now I finally feel like I can wear my Wellington t-shirt without being totally ironic -

In fact the weather has been so good that yesterday Rich and I decided to go to the beach for the day - we've already spent heaps of time up Kapiti way lately (with spending four days at Paekakariki over new years) so we decided to head out to Island Bay instead.

We've only been out to Island Bay one time before and thay was for Rich's birthday last year - so it was cool to go back again. The thing I love most about Island Bay that I haven't come across at any other Wellington beaches so far (but I have only been here six months) is rock pools!!

I love rock pools!! We spent most of the afternoons having a look around the rock pools but didn't find ay particulary interesting creatures.....but still it was fun.....and I actually got sunburnt yesterday - which isn't a good thing but it is surely a sign summer is here!!

Well today is my first day of holiday (if you don't count the weekend that is) and I don't yet have any major plans for the next three days....I actually got up surprisingly early today - I was at the gym at 8:05am!! I guess it's because I woke up when Rich woke up for work so I figured I may as well get up at the same time and go to the gym - shocking start to a holiday - but at least I had all my exercise for the day done at 9:00am in the morning. Leaving the rest of the day free to do whatever else I want!!

I'm going to meet my friend Jess for lunch at 1pm, then I thought I might head out to Porirua and go shopping for my brother birthday present out there - just for a change to the city.....although I'm not exactly sure what to get a 16 year old boy for his birthday - even if it is my brother.....hummm......

Well best be off to do whatever I feel like.....YAH HOLIDAYS!!

My Final Day!

I can hardly believe it's my final day at work - it's come along so quickly - it's crazy!

I'm excited to be finnishing today but at the same till do feel a bit sad that I won't get to hang out with some of my team members anymore because they are really cool people - but at the same time I am just going to work down the road so I can easily seem them again.

Last night I made up little cards to go with the lolly mixtures I have made for my team - it's so hard to know what to write in them and you can't write in every one "It's been great getting to know you, all the best for the future" as that's lame!

I don't imagine I'll get up to a heck of a lot today - clean up the desk and I have a team morning tea and a lunch with some of the girls in the office.

I can't believe I have another 10 days off next week, I'll be like the Christmas/New Years break all over again. I'll have to decide what to do in that time - so far I've got my visit to Auckland, Simon & Celia's engagement party and various lunch with various people. Knowing most holiday it will all be gone way too quickly and I will be back at work before I know it.

Well I guess I should go and finish getting ready for my last day at work - wicked!

Only two days to go!!

I can hardly believe how fast this week has gone! I only have two days left at my job!

I had to say "goodbye" to one of my team mates yesterday as he works from home on Thursday/Friday which was weird because I was like - oh yeah I am actually leaving!

I've made up some lolly mixtures for my team so I'm going to write little cards to go with them tonight in anticipation of my last day!

Teresa & Rich's Big Day Out Schedule

The Big Day Out is getting closer and closer - and despite the fact this is my seventh one I am still really excited about the whole thing! Especially since my friends Conor & Sue have confirmed that they are coming along as well.

We have worked out a schedule for the day - however - there is one annoying clash (I guess it wouldn't be the BDO if you didn't miss at least one band you thought you had to see).

Kings of Leon, The Brunettes and DIE!DIE!DIE! are all on at the same time! Have decided to see The Brunettes at this stage (casting aside the old choose an international band over a kiwi band rule) but that could all change on the day!

Anyway - all going well this is where we will be on 20th Jan -

10:40-11:00 - Gramsci

11:00-11:30 - Deja Voodoo

12:00-12:40 - The Greenhornes

The Final Countdown!

That song was my cellphone ring for so long - but now it's the theme from Knightrider- which makes more sense given my fascination with all things Hoff.

Anyways the reason this entry is called the final countdown is that it's my last week at my current job! I can hardly believe it - I gave 6 weeks notice but those six weeks have gone by so quickly (I guess two of those 6 weeks were Christmas/New Years holiday though!).

So as of this Friday I will be all finished at my old job and looking foward to yet another week off!

I'm hoping to escape from my old job relatively quietly - but I don't think that will happen - but I really hate the big fuss they make when you leave a place! I also made the mistake of telling one of the guys in my team that I hate a big fuss when you leave a workplace so that is likely to ensure a huge fuss. However, at this stage my only Friday work plans is lunch with some of the girls at the office - fingers crossed it stays that way!!

I was intially not too sure what I was going to do next week but the days seem to be filling up quickly - Thursday & Friday I'm going to be in Auckland for the Big Day Out.

I found out yesterday that my friend Karen will be in town on Tuesday and because I'm not working I will be able to spend the day with her.

I'm also trying to arrange to have lunch with my cousin - so I'm sure I'll fill up the rest of the days quite easily.

Well time to finish getting ready for my last Tuesday at this job!

In the beginning......

I decided to start a blog - to let you all know what I've been getting up to in Wellington - seen as my friends seem to spread all over NZ these days!! It is one of my numerous new years resolutions!!

The rest of these resolutions are.....

1) Start a Blog and keep it up
2) Act in a Play
3) Learn Te Reo
4) Travel more and visit the South Island
5) Join Weight Watchers and lose the rest of the weight I want to lose
6) Join Amnesty International
7) Take up Theatre Sports
8) Learn Decoupage
9) Take creative writing course
10) Save pingers for OE

Well that list should keep me going for the rest of 2006!

By the way - we had the best time ever in Paekakariki - these last couple of days at work have been an absolute killer - I have so been yearning to still be at the beach!! But not to worry - only 5 days left of work and I have a week off before I start my new job - woohoo:D
