Cupcake decorating class

Last week Emi and I took part in another Wellington Pink Ladies event which helped to ease the pain of returning to the "real world" after a weeks holiday in the sun.

The event was a cupcake decorating party by a local business called "Cupcake Sweeties". I am a pretty darn good baker (if I do say so myself) but to date my skills in decoration have been a little "limited". For this reason, I was pretty excited to take part in this class to learn some things about decoration.

When we arrived we each had a little mold each and also some fondant - during the evening we swapped molds and fondant to make all kinds of pretty things for the top of our cupcakes.

We also got to try our hand at molding chocolate, which isn't quite as malleable as the fondant - but it tastes a WHOLE lot better!

Above is my first ever attempt at piping frosting - I liked the front two but the back two were a little bit rubbish so I tried again. I also decided that I didn't want four cupcakes with pink frosting when there were three different types of frosting to choose from!

Next up was time to add the little decorations that I'd made to the cupcakes - I wasn't really sure how to add them as some of them looked a little bit too big for the cupcakes, but they turned out alright (I think).

Below are my favourites from the six I decorated - they are also the most simple - I guess there's a lesson in that somewhere.

As you can tell from the photos above we finished up with edible glitter - which I MAY have gotten a little carried away with - but it's glitter you can eat! That's pretty awesome.

Here's all my cupcake pretties together - what do you guys think? It's much better than my previous decorating attempts that's for sure.

Weekend Fun times

I hope you've all had a super fun weekend, mine has been pretty amazing! I had my hair cut and coloured and got new green extensions, had lunch with Ria and another friend Alice and then Emi and I went to a belly dance class with Wellington Pink Ladies which was heaps of fun - I used to do belly dance YEARS ago and the class made me seriously consider if I should go back to it.

Finally we rounded off the evening with a dinner with our friend Ross and we watched "The Grey"  which was really good as well! I'd recommend it - the scenery in Alaska was so beautiful (at times, other times it was incredibly bleak!).

Today was a stunner of a day and in the morning Rich and picked up a couple of bagels and headed out to Otari-Wilton Bush to eat some lunch in the sunshine and have a walk.

Made-by-me May has been pretty well, but I am now coming to the conclusion I really need to make more things to wear! I was hoping to make something this weekend but I was just so busy. I must try and get started on a project this week.

But I did at least try to adjust my maxi frock that I made to wear in Asia at the start of the year to the Wellington Autumn. I'm not sure if I quite pulled this look off though - again I think the shoes look a little weird. What do you guys think? I'm still a little unconvinced I can wear this dress in the cooler Wellington weather!

Clothes Swap Post - Number one

I have attended two clothes swaps recently, one arranged by the Wellington Pink Ladies and one I held at my apartment last weekend.

I decided I'd do two posts in regard to the clothes swap goodies I received, this first post is for the Pink Ladies clothes swap.

I actually didn't get many clothes from this swap, in the clothes department I only managed to pick up a blazer and a shirt. I haven't posted pictures of them because they are the kind of boring "office" clothes I tend to wear when doing presentations or external meetings. I really do not like spending money on this type of thing - so I always love it when I can pick them up a swaps. But they aren't exactly the most interesting thing so I haven't posted any pictures of them here (plus I still need to take the blazer to be dry cleaned).

But I did pick up a lot of amazing accessories - so I was pretty pleased with myself. I didn't feel as if I was going away empty handed that's for sure!

Firstly two belts, the brown one will be useful. I'm not so sure about the silver and blue one - but you never know what outfit it might work with - some kind of silver space girl dress perhapsAnimal print satin scarf and two bottles of nail polish - which are like new! I'm not so sure about the yellow, but I will try it out and if I don't like it I can always give it to someone else. Three necklaces, I think they are all pretty cute. I was kind of glad to pick up two shorter necklaces too as a lot of mine are long pendant style.
I love crazy chunky rings and I still can't believe I managed to pick up so many at a single clothes swap party! I think my favourite is the red one, but they are all so rad. I know a lot of people out there are already enjoying spring, but down here in New Zealand winter is on it's way! So I was pretty pleased when I picked up this pretty blue winter scarf.

Finally - I saved the best for last - SPARKLY LEGWARMERS!!

Pretty exciting right? I feel like I need to attend some kind of roller disco to show these babies off to the world (there was actually one last week, but I felt too sick to go along). They even have sparkly buttons down the side - how fun is that! I used to have a pair of legwarmers when I lived in Korea but I kind of wore them out and I couldn't justify bringing partly destroyed legwarmers home to NZ. But I think I will be rocking these over the weekends this winter!
