Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge: Bracelets and Bangles

This weeks Wednesday wardrobe challenge was all about bracelets and bangles - so lets start with the main event. When I'm at work I tend to prefer wrist cuffs to bracelets and bangles, mostly due to the fact its easy to type when you're wearing them. I spend a great deal of my work day behind a computer typing.

I also wore a lot of handmade jewellery this Wednesday - the skull cuff and black bracelet above are made by Vany, the wee fox brooch is from a recent swap and the chain and ribbon necklace is my own handiwork.

 I also wore my new winter boots this week - I was thinking I'd like another pair of boots in the winter and then these came up in my Avon brochure for a good price, so I snapped them up.

Here's the whole outfit - I've found I've been wearing a lot of brown lately which must be a winter thing!

My hair is really starting to get out of control! I'm visiting the hair dresser not this coming weekend but the following. I kind of want to keep it longer, but I also want it to be a bit edgy and fun. Any suggestions?

Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge: Coloured Tights! The Sir Truby King Memorial Gardens Edition!

Yesterday was a public holiday and it was also a stunner of a day so Rich and I finally took the chance to visit the Sir Truby King Memorial Gardens in Melrose.

If you're not from New Zealand, then you may not have the slightest idea who Sir Truby King was, he's pretty well known in this part of the world as a social reformer of mental health and infant care. He's best know for founding the Plunket Society  which does all kinds of things for mum's and babies in New Zealand even today. Apparently he was very controversial in his day though, some of his ideas were a little bit strange at the time and he was a strong believer is Eugenics.

Also, despite being bankrupt when he died he still had this big fancy house and garden and the plaque at the gardens told me he was the first private New Zealand citizen to be given a state funeral - his mausoleum is also in the gardens - its pretty low key. But then the last mausoleum I visited was Ho Chi Min's so perhaps I've set my expectations for mausoleums a little high. 

As you can see it was a stunning autumn day in Wellington - clear skies and hardly any winds - these days don't happen that often.

Rich is the king of the world! Such great view of Kilbirnie (my favourite op shopping haunt) and Lyall Bay from up here.

Now it's time for the outfit post! The theme this week was "coloured tights" my tights weren't brightly coloured but they did have a fancy pattern on them so that counts right?

Feather tights! Exciting! I bought these from Equipt - they have loads of tights in for winter and you can get 2 pairs for $20 - score!

When we had finished up in the gardens we walked through the town belt to Newtown - the trees all looked a bit naked here and the pine needles were thick on the ground.

I love the way these trees frame the city below and look how blue that sky is! 

Finally - I have always loved this gate in Newtown, but whenever I've seen it I've been on the bus so I haven't been able to take a photo. It's pretty rad don't you think?

Like a said at the start of the post, yesterday was a public holiday here - but not any old public holiday. It was anzac day - for those of you who don't know its when we remember those who we have lost in battle.

Because of this, I thought I'd share the film which is to me the most important film I've ever seen about war and conflict. It's a documentary made way back in 1995 and I saw it with my 5th form history class - the film is called War Stories our Mothers Never Told Us and the stories of the women in this film stay with me even until this day. If you have a chance to see this movie, please do!

Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge - Coloured Shoes

Hello World! Just a short and sweet post tonight as Rich and I are off to a play this evening - we are SO fancy.

Yesterdays wardrobe challenge was "coloured shoes" which isn't much of a challenge really - seen as I have a rainbow of shoes!

Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge - No Black!

As you guys know, I was sick on Wednesday and didn't go to work - which made it a little hard to do Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge.
The challenge was "no black at all" which I almost pulled off - but I didn't have a slip that wasn't black and this wrap dress would show off a bit too much without one.

The outfit did get me some compliements at work - one of my workmates said I always looked nice because I'm always colour co-ordinated. Also my new glasses are here! I am rather taken with them and I've received lots of great comments about them from people and work and friends I've bumped into. I am rather glad I went with the red ones in the end. I'll be wearing them over the next two weeks then it will be back to the optometrist to see if my eye problems have improved.This necklace is brand new - I bought it from one of those one day deal websites - I've wanted one for the LONGEST time. I also wore my peacock ring, which people always think is super fancy. But actually I got it from Equipt for $3.

Thanks so much for all your suggestions in regard to what shoes to wear with maxi frock/skirts in cooler weather. I am going to be looking into some warm fabric to make some winter maxi dresses so stay tuned!

I wanted to share with you some of the things I got from the "Second Chance Fashion Sale" with the Wellington Pink Ladies this past weekend.

I got three frocks - two are pretty cool but the third its AMAZING!

Firstly the two "pretty cool" frocks -

A grey and blue wrap around dress - it looks really great on, not so great just hanging on hanger!I got this little brown office dress too - the photo isn't that great but it looks lovely on and it's made from nice thick fabric for winter.

Finally - the really AWESOME dress.....

An emerald green (just in time for St. Patrick's Day) 1960's woollen dress - it's so amazing and so warm. It cost me $40, which is a really good price for Wellington. Most of the vintage shops around town would charge at least double for a dress like this. Just look at the cute little details! I love the bows - they are adorable. But there is more! The dress isn't a dress alone, its part of a two piece set. Here's the jacket part of the outfit.I just love the furry cuffs on the coat - its just perfect! I think I'll wear it with my brown belt for added awesome.A wee label shot - because I know some folks like that kind of thing - made in NZ of course!
We have had the fire engineers at our apartment today to put in a new sprinkler system and its a totally disaster - well, the sprinkler isn't but there is dust everywhere!! Ugh - Rich is being super awesome and starting to clean it up at the moment. But I feel like we will be clearing up dust for like the next month. Tedious!

Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge - Locally Made

I did consider wearing something I made for this challenge - but I usually show you what I've made as soon as I'd made it so I thought I'd better wear something different.
This is one of my favourite dresses ever - its also my travelling dress as its super stretchy and comfortable. It's not by a Wellington label, but an Auckland label called Illicit Clothing. They currently sell street wear - hoodies and tee shirts and import a few dresses, tops, etc... from some USA labels. But there was a time when they used to make the cutest girls clothing. I am not sure why they stopped doing this - I used to see lots of girls wearing their stuff.

When I went to put this frock on yesterday I was a bit worried - I thought it might have been as case of "designed in NZ - made in China" but I was happy to learn the dress was both designed and made right here in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Excellent.

My outfit/accessories aren't terribly New Zealand, although every single day I wear this cute ring that Rich bought me for my 30th Birthday. It's from the New Zealand Jewellery designer Meadowlark. I think when I reach my weight loss goal (10kgs down - 20kgs to go) I might buy myself another one of their rings to reward myself for a job well done (hopefully I will make it before the end of this year).

Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge - Fairy Princess

Hello all! Today's Wednesday's Wardrobe Challenge was a tough one - "fairy princess". I wasn't sure how to incorporate this theme into an everyday outfit. I decided to wear pink - lots and lots of pink.

This necklace is actually a cupcake - it's a little hard to get a decent "action shot" of it!

I bought this bracelet at a Hello Kitty Cafe in Seoul! Slightly blurry picture sorry folks.

Another new accessory I bought on my trip - this little ring is from Phuket City.

I hope you all had a lovely Valentines yesterday, Rich and I have decided to put Valentines "on hold" until next week. He is in the depth of writing an essay for his Masters degree and I've been working hard to finish off the dress I am wearing to our friends wedding this Saturday.
