13 Days of Halloween Swap - Stuff I made!

If you regularly follow my blog you will remember all of the goodies I received from Vany for our annual 13 days of Halloween swap - but I didn't show you the things I made for the swap (I bought some things too - but I didn't take photos of those).

Here's the creepy handmade goodies I made - first up three pairs of up-cycled gloves (one pair made from an old scarf and the other two made from a old tops).

A collection of sewing items - a needle book with a skull on it, two pincushions and four covered buttons. Rich designed the cross-stitch patterns for the needle book and buttons.

I made two sets of note cards - I stitched the old horror movie images on using my sewing machine and the envelopes are stamped with stamps I carved myself.

I made Vany a scarf - here it is modeled by me! The red fabric is up-cycled from a skirt I picked up at an op shop.

I made another wee pouch - this one was a simple pouch made in cotton and I used the hand-carved stamp I made to print the fabric.

A couple of cameo brooches - the creepy cameo are from esty and the settings are vintage. I especially love the setting on the right.

Vany is a book lover so I made her a cross-stitched book mark - I did use a pattern but I also kind of made up part of it as well.

These pot holders were the result of my first ever experience in quilting - they turned out much better than I expected. I was actually pretty proud of them.

I also made Vany this wee bat - he has buttons for eyes and one is blue and one in red. He is all hand-stitched.

I also made a tote bag - I printed this one with a stamp that Vany carved for me a couple of years back.

Even more fabric that I printed with stamps - this is a TV quilt (much like the one I made for Lukah) perfect for watching horror movies.

Finally another pouch - this one is made from the up-cycled scarf as well.

Lukah's Birthday Quilt

I'm actually a pretty terrible Aunt - I wrote my nephew Lukah's birthday in my calendar on the wrong date which means his birthday present is a few days late.

This year Lukah is turning five and I'm sure that lots of people will buy him school related things (I already know he's received a Ben 10 school bag) so I decided to make him a wee TV/Movie quilt. 

I decided to make a kind of "farm themed" TV quilt as Lukah does like spending lots of time at my Mum and Dad's place on the farm and my brother is a farm worker so the farm is a big part of his life.

I bought this farm fabric specifically for the quilt - its kind of cute and cartoon like - I did want to get one that mostly had cows as the region my family farms is primarily a dairy region. But I couldn't find anything cute and cow specific - I think I was maybe being a little TOO specific wanting cute cow cartoon fabric!

I also added a square of fabric left over from my "horsing about dress" as it seemed to work in pretty well with the whole farm theme.

I really wanted an earthy green for the fleece for the backing fabric - however, its coming into summer here and there wasn't a huge amount fleece at my local fabric store. So instead I chose this almost fluro green - hopefully Lukah likes bright colours as much as I do.

This wee quilt is off to its new home with Lukah in Taranaki tomorrow - I really hope he likes it.

Instagram - Week Seven

It's time for another snapshot of a week in my life via instagram!

Jaimee gave us these chocolates for feeding Luca - they were pretty good.

My coaster at work - my workmate Sarah gave it to me.

I tried this yoghurt last week - so delicious. I don't think I'll have it again though - a lot of sugar and fat compared to my regular yoghurt.

They sell bias binding at my supermarket - I'm a sewing geek, so I was kind of exciting to know I have got somewhere to buy bias binding when the fabric shop is closed.

Day two of the thirteen days of Halloween swap - awesome printed "Frankie" scarf.

I bought tights for $2 a pair!

I started a quilt project with some "love darlek" fabric that Rich designed on spoonflower.

Day three of thirteen day of Halloween Swap - a skull wrist pincushion - I've used this a few times and have asked myself why I didn't buy a wrist pin cushion ages ago. It's the best thing EVER!

"Gum Powder" also came with day three of my swap package!

I did some sewing over the weekend using "Built By Wendy - Home Stretch".

Day four of the thirteen day of Halloween swap included vintage cookie cutters and also German icing supplies.

My finished dress - which I have since decided is too frumpy and I'll most likely never wear it! Well - its all practice sewing.

Day 5 of the Thirteen days of Halloween swap - handmade bat brooch and various other creepy bits of jewellery.

My outfit of primary colours today - yellow tights, blue petticoat and red skirt.

Instagram - week five

Here's another peak into what I've been up to the past week, via the wonderful world of instagram.

I found this at the library last Sunday when I was dropping off some things - I'm looking forward to going to this fair next Sunday. Indonesia is on my list of countries I want to visit (but let's be honest - there's not many countries that aren't on my list!).

I go to an woman's only gym and quite often we get freebies at the gym - like sample sized beauty products. I picked this up on Monday, but then was disappointed to find its anti-dandruff shampoo.

I spent some of the vouchers Rich's Mum and Dad gave me for my birthday and bought a new blue lace dress at lunchtime on Monday.



This week I got another avon haul - including LOTS of freebies. I also just ordered the cookie cutters to make this cookie Christmas tree.

This is a photo of me hemming a 1970's frock - so I can wear it to work the next day.

This week I did more stamping - so much more stamping!

It was a very busy week work wise - so one night I just ended up having vegemite on toast for dinner!





Exciting mail day this week - my Mum send Rich's birthday present down to us and also sent me a whole bunch of fabric she has bought recently op-shopping.

I caught up with Emi for a drink on Thursday night at Mulberry Garden - a restaurant near our apartment.

I worn this creepy girl necklace to work on Friday - I bought it from the Rose Street Markets in Melbourne a couple of years ago.



On Saturday Emi and I went to the Steampunk Exhibition at Thistle Hall - here's a few pictures I took whilst waiting for her.





I helped Emi set up her stall at Mighty Mighty markets on Saturday - here's a few pictures of her stall. I love the jars filled with lollies *rawr*.

Rich and I went to see the the Wellington Phoenix play last night, it was Freezing cold, but at least we won 2-0 (we played Sydney FC).

This ones a bit exciting - these are the approximate dates for my trip to the USA next year! I'm booking my tickets officially tomorrow!



Emi gave me my late birthday presents this week - a cute bento set and a narwhal arigumi that she made especially for me!

I had my hair done this week - hairdressers fell they must always make my hair SUPER straight - I'm not so crazy about it.

One of the many film posters in our apartment - we bought this one whilst we were living in Korea so its in Hanguel (and some English).





Finally today was an absolute stunner of a day - so Rich and I spent much of the day at the waterfront.
