Napier Op Shopping

Hello All! Rich and I had a super time in Napier - I can't wait to share my photos with all of you - but there are a LOT of them so I think I will need to wait until the weekend to go through them all and sort them out. I am a little snap happy - but if you follow this blog you will know that already.

I do love op shopping (or thrifting as my American friends would say), but op shopping in Wellington can be hard. Often the store have been well picked over by the time I get to them! So when I travel to the smaller cities I do like to take the chance to do a spot of op shopping.

On this trip I actually didn't come across and epic finds, but that's the nature of op-shopping (or any shopping really).

I did however come across a couple of wee sewing related finds I thought I would share.

Firstly is a vintage pattern - the white and red versions of the dress actually have shorts underneath! I am not sure if I like the idea of this or not - I haven't worn shorts in YEARS. It could work though. Or I could just make the green one - no shorts required.
I also found this fabric which is cotton and just adorable! I got about a metre and a half so that's enough for a short dress I think.
One of the reasons I love it so much is because when Rich and I were in Korea the song "Heart Breaker" by "G-Dragon" was HUGE. It seemed to be in my head ALL the time. Prepare yourself for some K-pop people!

I have a pattern very similar to that! I'm dying to make it but shorts seem a bit too scary for my limited abilities!
Glad you had a good trip and looking forward to the photos, the more the merrier. x

That fabric is so sweet!!

I know how you feel about stores. Philly stores are always picked over, so I often ask friends to take me out of town or thrift when I'm with my mom.

"Op shopping", where does that phrase come from? I hope it means "opportunity shopping" :)

@ Vix - yes pics are on the way - but it is a weekend job sadly as there are SO MANY!

@Meg - It is so annoying! The op shops are really picked over in Wellington central. Kilbirnie is usally good (suburb of Wellington) but I can only make it there on Saturdays.

@Alicia, CB & Cosmia - In NZ we don't have thrift shops - our second had shops are called "Opportunity Shops". So we don't go thrifting but we do go op shopping^^

@Helga - I think you would LOVE Napier! You and G should take a break from Quaky town and go for a visit:)

@Sadie - I haven't gone to Kath's sewing club yet but planning on going next week as they have a coffee meet up. Sorry to hear you are so sick - so many nasty bugs going around. Yuck!

I love the heart breaker fabric! So cute. Until recently I hadn't worn shorts in a long time either, but I've grown to love them again. I always have trouble making them myself though. Inevitably I sew the crotch together wrong, and have to unpick & do it again.

Words cannot express how much I miss Op Shopping in Wellington. From the legendary Wellington tip shop, through to Petone and Lower Hutt. Napier hasn't got a hope in comparing itself to these beauties!

Gah! I've tried commenting three times now, hopefully they didn't all magically work... I was just popping in to say how much I miss op shopping in Wellington. There is nowhere in NZ like the Wellington tip shop, or the Petone st. Vincent's. Le sigh. Napier hasn't a hope of comparing!
