Halloween Swap - Day Three

When I was going through my stash picking out all the "creepy" fabric to get some inspiration for Vany's package I realised I had a lot of smaller pieces of fabric that was lying around from past projects. I decided that all this fabric needed to be put to good use, in some kind of patchwork project.

I had a look through my craft and sewing books and decided to make a "friendship scarf" from Sew La Tea Do.

I started by cutting out the squares for the scarf and yes, there is still MORE fabric left over from my Meg Dress as well as some scraps from my kawaii high tea outfit.

I backed the scarf with more fabric that was used in my kawaii high tea outfit. Once I sewed it all up the scarf was complete! I'm not sure it will be that useful in the German winter, but I hope Vany can use it in Autumn.

Also for an item of clothing, even a scarf, its good to include an action shot. Kuromi volunteered for the job.

I also added a couple of extras here - in the form of some sugar skulls! First up is a little hand warmer. I used to love these things in the Korean winter, it doesn't really get cold enough here in Wellington to use them, but I am sure Vany will appreciate it in the German winter.

Seen as I was already including one sugar skull extra, I figured I may include another when I found this fun tin with lollies in it, I wanted one of these for myself too - but I managed to resist.

Lukah's Birthday Quilt

I'm actually a pretty terrible Aunt - I wrote my nephew Lukah's birthday in my calendar on the wrong date which means his birthday present is a few days late.

This year Lukah is turning five and I'm sure that lots of people will buy him school related things (I already know he's received a Ben 10 school bag) so I decided to make him a wee TV/Movie quilt. 

I decided to make a kind of "farm themed" TV quilt as Lukah does like spending lots of time at my Mum and Dad's place on the farm and my brother is a farm worker so the farm is a big part of his life.

I bought this farm fabric specifically for the quilt - its kind of cute and cartoon like - I did want to get one that mostly had cows as the region my family farms is primarily a dairy region. But I couldn't find anything cute and cow specific - I think I was maybe being a little TOO specific wanting cute cow cartoon fabric!

I also added a square of fabric left over from my "horsing about dress" as it seemed to work in pretty well with the whole farm theme.

I really wanted an earthy green for the fleece for the backing fabric - however, its coming into summer here and there wasn't a huge amount fleece at my local fabric store. So instead I chose this almost fluro green - hopefully Lukah likes bright colours as much as I do.

This wee quilt is off to its new home with Lukah in Taranaki tomorrow - I really hope he likes it.

Patchwork!

Shortly I'm heading out to the movies with friends and I'm pretty excited as I'm going to see ET on the big screen!

One of our local cinemas, Embassy often shows classic movies on the big screen - this year I've already seen Labyrinth and Back to the Future on the big screen and I'll be watching Jurassic Park and Jaws there before the year is out. 

I just wanted to share one of my first patchwork projects with you before I head out - I made a scarf for Rich's Mum for her birthday - what do you think? Apologies for the instagram only photos - my camera battery has been going flat a lot lately.

It's time like this I had a dressmakers dummy so I could have shown you all a bit of an action shot of the scarf - I was wearing a crazy bright floral frock yesterday and I think it would have completed overwhelmed the earthy tones of the scarf if I modeled it myself.

Also - today was a rather exciting day - its the first day of the annual "13 Days of Halloween" swap. My friend Vany (the craft ninja) and I do this swap everywhere and she always blows me away with her mad crafting skills.

Day one included a set of skull mini cards - seriously - how cute are these. I love the pixel look they have.

Vany also included some lollies in the package - I really love these lollypops - how cool are they?
