On to this weeks Homemakin' project, this is a big one so its going to be a two weekend project and it involves a lot of t-shirts. About a million years ago I saw a blog post where someone had made a quilt from all of her boyfriends old band t-shirts. I thought that was a pretty rad idea, Rich and I already had a few band t-shirts we couldn't part with and I looked out for other t-shirts when I was out op-shopping.
However, before I could completed my stash of t-shirts we decided to leave the country, but not all was lost for the t-shirts as old t-shirts make perfect packaging material for breakables.
When we were at Mum and Dad's at Christmas we unearthed some of our treasures - including breakables wrapped in the t-shirt collection. I decided it was time for these t-shirts to reach their full potential and become a quilt, so I bought them home with me. Last weekend I cut them up and sewed them all together to make the quilt, it isn't complete yet as I want to buy some fleece for the back part, when that's done I can show you all the finished article.
But for now let's have check out an initial WIP shot, this is a pretty big quilt for a queen bed so its kind of hard to show you the WHOLE quilt when its not on a bed, but you get the general idea.
I hope you all had a super weekend xoxox
Aaaagh I LOVE the guilt! I want one like that!!!!!
Rock'n'roll AND soft and cosy - that must be the perfect combination!
What a brilliant project, I love it! xxx
That is such a great idea, it looks brilliant, holds loads of memories and I could just imagine how soft all those old t-shirts would be. I'd love to make something like that for my daughter, then her bed would match her walls. Also wanted to say, thank you for your lovely comment about my artwork Trees, I really appreciated it a lot. xx
This looks brilliant! A proper rock and roll bed cover! so many bands I love in there, too. x
Totally rock and roll original. I love it!
Bloody old Blogger!
That is an AWESOME quilt!
I sewed some old band T's onto a pair of leggings for G once. I'm pretty sure he still has them, I must get him to find them! XXX
Oh. My. Gawwwwwwd. That is the most fantastic quilt on the planet!!! I can imagine rolling around on it, feeling the gorgeous softness, but I really think you should forget I said that coz I don't think that's a very good image to get stuck in your head;). Can't wait to see it finished! :) xoxoxo
That is very cool, love it!
OMG I once wanted to do this too, with all the old and unloved T-shirts we had a few years ago. But sadly, they all had to go :(
That's OK, I'll just admire your band T-shirt quilt.
BTW, did you zigzag stitch them with the sewing machine, or did you use a serger/overlocker? I know jersey isn't the friendliest material to straight-stitch...
It looks great. I like that most of the t shirts are black so you really get to see the pictures and band names more clearly.
This is a brilliant idea & I want one! This would make an awesome keepsake present or even a wedding gift, especially if you were able to incorporate all the fave bands of the person/s you were giving it to.
Your one is very rock n roll indeed and features some of my favourite bands, love it!
I covered a couple of chair seats with band tees once and I've made tote bags and boob tubes out of them but this is the best Tee revamp I've seen.
