Wednesday Wardrobe Challege: Urban Jungle

It's been a couple of weeks since I've done Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge - but I thought this week was the perfect week to get back into taking part. The theme was "Urban Jungle" which I thought was a great opportunity to wear my purple tiger print tights.

These are the most amazing tights I own, I have to admit they were pretty pricey but they have lasted a really long time. Here's the rest of my outfit - although I'm not really crazy about the outfit or the indoor photo.

I picked up this frock a while back from a clothes swap and whilst I like the idea of it - I'm not sure I actually like it. Perhaps its because its the wrong length? I'm not sure.

Last time I wore this necklace in a post someone asked for a close up shot - so here you all go!

Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge: I forgot I had this!

Today's Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge was "I forgot I had this!" so for this challenge I thought I'd head straight to the mending pile. I am terrible at fixing things on my mending pile - often I'll pick up something at the op shop that I think is awesome but needs so kind of small alteration, then it will end up sitting on the mending pile for MONTHS before I actually mend it and wear it. This dress is a perfect example of that, I have had it so long I can't even remember where it is from (I know its an op shop but I have no idea which one) the only problem with it was that it was too long. It took me all of 15 minutes to shorten, I'm not sure why I didn't do that months ago. The main reason I bought the dress is because I loved the colours - I think they just work together so well, the pattern is pretty rad as well.

I decided to team the dress with BRIGHT pink tights and of course my favourite shoes, I was going to wear my suede boots today for the first time, but it was raining again as I left home, so they had to stay at home. I am beginning to think I've bought suede boots at the wrong time of year. It does seem to be raining a lot lately, a sign spring is on the way perhaps?

The dress includes a rather lovely pussy bow - I always like these, but I don't actually have many tops or dresses with them.

I was having an exceptionally bad hair day today - bleh! I am in a bit of a hair rut actually. I'm not sure what to do with it next, I do like having it mostly black with a shock of colour, but thinking maybe I could dip dye the ends some crazy colour or bleach one small part and dye it a bright colour. Then I think I'm most likely too lazy to have a wild hair colour that requires maintenance (whereas extensions require nil maintenance). First world problems right?

Tiny doughnut ring - when I first bought this ring, Rich thought it was weird that I bought the doughnut ring rather than the cupcake ring that was also being sold on the same stall. That's because I LOVE cupcakes and I don't generally don't like doughnuts (also, doughnuts aren't really a big thing in NZ). But the answer is simple, if I was wearing a cupcake ring it would make me want to go and buy cupcakes, but I don't like doughnuts, so I can look at the ring and think its cute but have no desire to eat doughnuts. It's much better for my health than the cupcake ring!

I had a couple of compliments at work about my outfit today - one lady in particular said she looks forward to seeing what I wear each day as my clothes are always so bright and colourful. That made me smile, and almost made me get over my bad hair day (almost).

Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge: Patterned Tights

Today's Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge and the theme was patterned tights (or socks) and despite it being a rainy, cold, miserable day I was determined to wear these mad tights!

I decided to base the rest of my outfit around pink - because I just love being "matchy-matchy". I wore this little pink dress that I bought from my friend Chloe's blogshop - she sells lots of pre-loved (& sometimes new) clothes for $5 or $10 Singapore dollars. You should check out her blog and her online store - both are rad.

I wore this creepy lady necklace - to avoid being too cutie cutie! I bought this creepy lady at the Rose Street Markets in Melbourne when I visited last year.

I'm kind of into wearing a whole bunch of brooches/badges at the moment, rather then just one. These badges I received from my friends Conor and Sue for my birthday last year.

Rich told me to pull a silly face, I'm not the best a pulling silly faces though - as you guys may have already realised.

Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge: Coloured Tights! The Sir Truby King Memorial Gardens Edition!

Yesterday was a public holiday and it was also a stunner of a day so Rich and I finally took the chance to visit the Sir Truby King Memorial Gardens in Melrose.

If you're not from New Zealand, then you may not have the slightest idea who Sir Truby King was, he's pretty well known in this part of the world as a social reformer of mental health and infant care. He's best know for founding the Plunket Society  which does all kinds of things for mum's and babies in New Zealand even today. Apparently he was very controversial in his day though, some of his ideas were a little bit strange at the time and he was a strong believer is Eugenics.

Also, despite being bankrupt when he died he still had this big fancy house and garden and the plaque at the gardens told me he was the first private New Zealand citizen to be given a state funeral - his mausoleum is also in the gardens - its pretty low key. But then the last mausoleum I visited was Ho Chi Min's so perhaps I've set my expectations for mausoleums a little high. 

As you can see it was a stunning autumn day in Wellington - clear skies and hardly any winds - these days don't happen that often.

Rich is the king of the world! Such great view of Kilbirnie (my favourite op shopping haunt) and Lyall Bay from up here.

Now it's time for the outfit post! The theme this week was "coloured tights" my tights weren't brightly coloured but they did have a fancy pattern on them so that counts right?

Feather tights! Exciting! I bought these from Equipt - they have loads of tights in for winter and you can get 2 pairs for $20 - score!

When we had finished up in the gardens we walked through the town belt to Newtown - the trees all looked a bit naked here and the pine needles were thick on the ground.

I love the way these trees frame the city below and look how blue that sky is! 

Finally - I have always loved this gate in Newtown, but whenever I've seen it I've been on the bus so I haven't been able to take a photo. It's pretty rad don't you think?

Like a said at the start of the post, yesterday was a public holiday here - but not any old public holiday. It was anzac day - for those of you who don't know its when we remember those who we have lost in battle.

Because of this, I thought I'd share the film which is to me the most important film I've ever seen about war and conflict. It's a documentary made way back in 1995 and I saw it with my 5th form history class - the film is called War Stories our Mothers Never Told Us and the stories of the women in this film stay with me even until this day. If you have a chance to see this movie, please do!

Fancy tights Friday - Business in the front, party at the back

This weeks fancy tights Friday looks a little boring - black tights and green shoes - so what? You many think.
However - SURPRISE! The tights have a red "Ladylike Seam" (that's what the package said) down the back. Hurrah!
