Early Morning Aro

So to top off a weekend which included a hen's night and a wedding - I got up exceedingly early on Sunday morning (I had to be in the Korokoro at 7:30) to help out with water marshalling at a running race.

Why would I do such a thing? What sort of a sucker for punishment am I? Well it was all in a good cause - not surprisingly that cause was derby. We got paid to do the marshalling and all the funds went towards the derby team.

I decided when I was walking to get my ride that I may as well take some photo's of an early morning in the Aro Valley - seen as it's not often that I see it so quiet.

Also the view from where I was stationed in Korokoro wasn't too awful - but it was awfully hot and people did keep asking how much further it was to run and I had no idea. I think next time I will have to ask the organisers more questions.

Ange & Paul's Wedding

A couple of weekends ago, I was invited to my friend Ange's wedding, unfortunately since then with the Christmas season and all it's been hard to find time to blog. But finally here are the photo's!

The wedding was held at St Mary's of the Angels and then the reception was held at the Boat House on the Waterfront which meant plenty of amazing views of Wellington.

Jess' Hen's Night

Friday night was my friend Jess' hens night, which we decided, as the organising committee should have the theme 80's (because it's fun) and purple (because it's Jess' favourite colour).

We started off with some fantastic 80's food (thanks to Ange) and of course purple cocktails and Jelly shots.

Next it was time to get pretty in purple for the evenings events...

Then it was time for some fun and games....

Which ultimately left to Celia's house left looking like a bomb site!

The it was time to head off into town to rock out and generally cause some chaos.

Early Morning Walk

Yesterday before work I decided that I would go and check out any potential skating spots in or around the botanical gardens, I didn't really find anything, so I guess I will just have to keep looking for good spots around my house to skate.

I did however manage to get some good early morning shots of the gardens in general, but I guess until I find a better spot to practice skating I'm back to the local school.

Jess' Hen's night Teaser

Over the past couple of weeks I've been working hard, along with a few awesome friends to sort out all the details of Jess' hen's night.

The last few weeks seem to be a bit of a blur (as the weeks leading up to Decemeber often seem to be) and Jess' hen's night is now tommorrow night.

I've tried very hard to keep the events of tommorrow night a secret from Jess and to the best of my knowledge, no one has blabbed about what is going to happen.

I know that Jess reads my blog most days - and accordingly I'd like to dedicate this entry to her as a "teaser" of things to come.

All of the photo's below are part of what tommorrow night will bring - good luck with guessing what you're in for Jess!

Death Cupcake vs Cupcake Death?

I have decided that I really, really want to sort out my roller derby name sooner rather than later.

A couple of nights ago when I was walking home, the name Cupcake Death came into my head, shortly followed by the thought that Death Cupcake may in fact be better.

A couple of friends like the name, but another friend said it's cute but doesn't flow which I do agree with.

The other issue is, what would the name Death Cupcake be shortened to? Deathy? Cuppy? Neither are good!

Maybe I should just keep thinking - but I do like the idea of combining the cute side of life with the dark side of life in my derby name.

At this stage - all comments and suggestions are welcome!

A visit from a Kaka

Rich and I are lucky enough to live near the Karori Sanctuary which means we quite regulary have all sorts of bird visitors to our place usually Fantail, Wax eye and of course a LOT of Tui.

But recently we've started seeing a new visitor, the first time I saw one I did think perhaps I was going a little crazy, because it looked a lot like a kea who live near mountains not in urban Wellington.

Rich pointed out that it was in fact a Kaka and not a Kea - which is still not the sort of thing you expect to see in urban Wellington but it is pretty darn cool to live only a 15 minute walk from town and have some amazing native birds come and visit your deck.

Tonight the Kaka's were having a bit of a party outside our place I think - it was the first time I've really heard their call, which is pretty loud, but then I guess they are a pretty big birds.

After they visited us I did the uber geeky thing and checked out what a Kaka call sounds like online and confirmed once and for all our visitors are Kaka.

Making Bows, and more bows, and more bows...

A few months back, my friend Ange asked if I could make her some bows for the end of the pews for her wedding and last night I finally finished the bows (Just as well really given her wedding is on Saturday) so here's a bit of a photo essay about making a whole bunch of bows.

Starting out with a huge piece of nice, white silky fabric, which seemed to stretch out forever.
Next was cutting a LOT of strips of white fabric - so I could sew them up into strips that I could make bows from.
The image is a little blurry - but this is when the final strip was cut - Hurrah!
Sewing up the strips into tidy bow like ribbons on my vintage sewing machine - her name is "record" it says so in the bottom corner.
An extra shot of record in all her glory, and also my gloriously messy craft table!

The final product - one of the bows that I made for Ange's wedding!

....and also many, many, many more bows that I made for Ange's wedding!
