Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge:1970's

Today is Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge number two from CB at Citybirds nest - today's challenge was 1970's, which can only mean one thing - POLYESTER! 

Luckily I LOVE polyester!

Rich currently has lectures on Wednesday nights, so I bought a wee tripod to see if I could take some photos myself - but I have to admit they are pretty rubbish compared to the ones Rich usually takes.

Also I've decided after looking at the photos I took with the tripod that our apartment may be slightly lop-sided. These pictures turned out so wonky!

I guess that's what you get for living in an "old" art deco apartment!

Here's a close up of the fabric of this dress - which I love so much! This dress comes with a wee story actually, I seen a dress identical to this in one of the "vintage" stores in town, I LOVED the print, but the price they were asking just seemed silly. So I decided we weren't meant to be together!

Then a few weeks ago I was op shopping at opportunity for animals and they had the EXACT same dress for $7 and it fit me perfectly - I bought it straight away and left with a smile on my face.

Turns out I even have the perfect tights to wear with this dress - I haven't worn these tights for a long time as they are a bit breezy for winter.

But now its spring so they are just perfect.

I haven't worn this guy for a LONG time - so I thought I'd wear him today. Rich made him for me out of fimo (polymer clay) YEARS ago.

Finally - here's a close up of the animal friends that came with me to work today - a giraffe and a deer.

So I was hoping by now that Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge would be back up and running - but it doesn't seem to be the case. So if you have any ideas for a wardrobe challenge do let me know and I'll add them to the list.

Next week I'll be taking up Helga's challenge - 'attire to be worn whilst beating off cannibals' (I'm thinking "bad ass chic" for this one).

I also still have challenges to complete from Sarah, Mary and Curtise.

So if you have any ideas - no matter how simple (for example wear green) or how weird - let me know and I'll see if I can complete them all.

Finally - before I sign off I thought I'd show you my swipe card seen as I usually seem to be wearing it in my outfit posts. At work we get the standard office swipe card with our name on it. I decided to pimp mine out with Hello Kitty - because I'm TOTALLY a grown up.

Friday morning op shopping

Hello all! I decided to take yesterday off to just relax and prepare for our trip - I still don't feel very prepared at all though.

Seen as I was having a weekday off at home (which very rarely happens) I decided to take an  early morning trip to a couple of op shops in Kilbirnie. The main reason for this was to see if I could pick up any Jubilee worthy items for the swap I am taking part in over at Faith, Hope & Charity Shopping - but I did also manage to find some goodies for me as well (of course!).

First up, this wee plastic serving container - I think its pretty cute and I am going to use it to try and get at least some of my jewellery collection in order.

Next up is a couple of vintage sheets for upcycling - the pinky coloured one will become a dress. The white flowery one is really too thin to make anything wearable from (except perhaps as a lining)>  I'll most likely use it as fabric for embroidery or to make pouches and things from.

There seemed to be a lot of great shoes at the op shop this week - but they all seemed to be too big or small for me. But I did find these very cute flats.

Finally - I picked up these cute bowls, there was a set of four but they were selling them at $3 EACH which is a little rich for my op shopping budget. So I just bought two - they are really lovely though.

Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge - Brown

Yesterday's wardrobe challenge was brown and I decided it was time for another new frock so I made this one from fabric I bought ages ago at Opportunity for Animals - it was an epic day of op shopping, I picked up so much cheap and awesome fabric that day.

This dress is yet another pattern from Chic and Simple sewing, I think that book is basically one of the best investments I have ever made - best "on holiday" purchase ever - thanks bookstore in Singapore. Ignore all the bags of fabric in the picture - I am in serious need of more storage!

I am especially excited about this dress as someone stopped me in the street at lunch time to tell me how much they liked it. I still feel very much like a novice sewer and sometimes I worry that the things I make don't look right - so to have a comment from a complete stranger like that was pretty rad.

I haven't worn my "crocodile" shoes for a while - so I thought it was time they see the light of day. Unfortunately the weather seems to be getting cooler and cooler, pretty soon I'm sure the only footwear I'll want to wear is my boots.

I decided I needed to wear my red cardi with this outfit as there is only so much brown a girl can wear in one outfit.

Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge - Red

Hello Folks! Another very short post from me I'm afraid - I have had a terribly busy week with very little time for blogging - I hope I'll have some time to catch up on my blog reading over the weekend.
This weeks wardrobe challenge was "red" which wasn't too hard for me as its one of my favourite colours.

I picked this wee 80's frock up from a local op shop for next to nothing and I love it! Also a great frock for winter as it's pretty warm.

Sorry there's only one photo - I almost forgot to take one at all! Rich usually takes an outfit photo for me before we leave work on Wednesdays. But at the moment he's starting work early on Wednesday so he can leave work early to attend his lecture. I really need to get myself a tripod so I can take photos myself - any suggestions.

Also thanks to Camelia Crinoline for suggesting that I add making macaroons to my "35 before 35 list" such an excellent suggestion, it's already on the list! I've even found a one day baking course at Wellington High School to teach people how to bake them.

The other suggestion I had was from Olivia at Wait Until the Sunset who suggested that I go and visit her - I think I can do that - It's been a long time since I visited Brisbane.

I can't believe that tomorrow is Friday already! This week has really flown by! I hope you're all having a super week.
