Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge (on Saturday) - Pattern Mixing

Hello All! Sorry its been a bit of a quiet week from me - I seem to have been busy each night and out till kind of late so no time for blogging, but I am now back.

This weeks Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge was "pattern mixing" which isn't something I normally do. But I did try - I worn a scarf, tights and dress all with a different pattern.
This dress is by my favourite New Zealand designer - Kitty Bridges who makes super cute Kawaii clothes. Here's some of the details of the frock - look at the details! Cuteness.

Here's some of the accessory details - I wore pink and red as well as mixing my prints!

Yellow shoes to match my yellow cardi!

Wednesday was a big day in Wellington - last Sunday New Zealand won the Rugby World Cup for the first time since the 1980's. Rugby is the "National Game" of New Zealand, I was in my twenties before I really realised that in most countries football was the "peoples game" and rugby for the private school types. In NZ rugby is the peoples game - its what all the boys play at school (the girls play netball) and its not seen as being posh in any way! So you can imagine how crazy people went when we FINALLY won the Rugby World Cup again. Here's some photos I took of the Wellington Victory Parade from my office on Wednesday - it was craziness!

OUTFIT DEETS:

Dress - Kitty Bridges
Tights - Valleygirl
Shoes - Op Shopped, Opportunity for Animals, Kilbirnie
Cardy - Given to me by a friend
Scarf - Equipt
Bracelet - Bought at Hello Kitty Cafe, Seoul
Brooch - Bought somewhere online (I don't remember where!)

I'm off to Melbourne today!

Well later on today I am off Melbourne which I am REALLY excited about - the last time I was there in 2008 and I have decided its my favourite Australia city (although I have only visited three cities in Australia).

So you most likely won't hear from me until next Tuesday or Thursday - but before I leave I want to share a few photos of things that we have seen or done recently.

Fire dancers at the Petone Carnival

Petone Pier at night with pretty lights.

South African cultural festival in Civic Square - the guys drumming are incredible!

This gold painted rugby player is "Baz" and he's been turning up all over town - he told me he likes my hair. He has exceptionally good taste.

We finally got to waka for the wharewaka on our waterfront.

Rich did a jumping photo too!

One of the stores in town is having a really amazing exhibition - if you see a photo you like in the window it can be all yours! All you need to do is do something kind for someone else, go into the store and write down what you did and they will give you a pretty picture. Fabulous!

Nyan Cat! He was on the window of my hair dressers and yes he's in post it form.

Finally, last night Rich and I were luckily enough to go to the opening night of the "Reel Brazil" film festival. We received a little pack when we entered which included a Brazilian Music CD. The evening also included a band, canapés and cocktails. The opening film was "The Story of Me". If you live in Wellington this film is well worth watching - its sad at times but its pretty incredible.

Have a great weekend all!

My Weekend - Rugby World Cup madness takes over

Rugby World Cup madness has now taken over Wellington, I'm not a rugby fan at all but I am happy to take advantage of all the cultural events taking place around town. Rich and I went to check out the "fan zone" on the waterfront to watch the opening ceremony on the big screen.

Just to give you an idea how rugby mad this town has become, here's the front of one of the pubs in town with the opening game projected onto it!
On Saturday morning I decided to do a bit of shopping in Kilbirnie and whilst I was there I took the chance to visit the Japanese shop. The Japanese shop in Kilbirnie imports all kind of vintage goodies from Japan - they sell vintage Kimonos for around $25 and sell all kinds of pretty fabrics.

They often sell old pictures and photos at the Japanese shop - I loved this photo of this Japanese bride. It looks like its from the 1960's - she looked so fabulous in her wedding frock and long gloves.

On Saturday afternoon and evening Rich and I went to the Petone Carnival - like everything else, this year the carnival is focussed around the rugby world cup.

They had a lot of fun stuff at the carnival and a lot of it was free - including this petting zoo. The chicken was kind of cute but I've never seen a chicken before that was happy to have people pet it! It was a little weird.

Here's a dusk view of the carnival - yes all those people are lined up to go on that ride! The rides were only $5 to ride as many times as you want. So people were going a little crazy I think.
There was a night parade at the festival - but to be honest it was pretty lame. There were two good things, the fire dancers and these guys on unicycles with matching zebra trousers.
One of the big events for the festival was the fire sculptures - there were about 10 sculptures altogether I think and of course, like everything else at the moment, they were rugby themed.
Burn Baby BURN!

The evening finished off with a whole lot of fire works - I took a WHOLE bunch of photos but decided just to put a few up here. It was a really impressive display and went on for a really long time. Plus we could stand on the beach and watch the fireworks go off so we had a perfect view.

I hope you all had a good weekend!
