Fast times in Miramar

Miramar is a suburb in Wellington - it's also a shopping area in Taipei. To be honest, I am not sure if the area is called Miramar or just the big mall we visited.

Either way, here's a couple of photo's I took when we first arrived as you can see there's lots of bright lights in Miramar.

We decided to start our evening out with a quick dinner so we headed to Mos Burger - which I think is a Japanese burger chain. I loved this cup that Rich's drink came in, the little bird is super cute. Here's a few photo's from inside the Miramar Mall - I'm not really one for mall shopping but I have to admit this is an impressive building.

We went to Miramar for two reasons, the first was to go on the Miramar ferris wheel. You catch the ferris wheel from the roof of the Miramar mall. Here's a few photographs from the roof of the mall - including the booth where you buy the tickets for the ferris wheel - it's super cute.

Here's a few photo's we took whilst we were on the ferris wheel - unfortunatly it rained so the views weren't as good as they could have been but it was still a lot of fun.

The rain also kind of ruined the second reason we decided to go to Miramar. We headed out to see some fireworks which the city had arranged that night. Unfortunatly the rain made the fireworks really smoky and difficult to see. So after a while we decided to head back to the mall for some dessert.

Rich had the mega super chocolate with sprinkles and M & M's and an oreo sundae. Mine was a little plainer but it was so good. I thought the little marshmallows were super cute. When we left the mall after dessert it seemed like we had walked onto the set of Blade Runner. All of the smoke from the fireworks had gone everywhere, it was a little surreal.

Movie Fail

There is an area in Ximending with a whole lot of movie theatre's - we went there recently to watch a movie but unfortunatly all of the cinema's seemed to playing the same movie's and we didn't want to watch any of them.

So the movie watching was a total fail - but we did find these cool murals near Taipei Cinema Park. They are pretty amazing.

Also when we were out for a walk we saw some graffitti artists at work in Taipei Cinema park - you can't see it in the picture but this guy was working on a Halloween themed piece.

We checked out a few shops on our travels in Ximending as well - first of all here's a shot of Rich checking out a book in front of "Rock Fetish" near all of the cinema's.
I've walked past this store a few times but I decided I just had to take a photo - everything they sell is made in outer space apparently.I also loved these pillows - my favourite character Kuromi and My Melody - extremely Kawaaii cute.

Birthday Dress - fail!

So if you read my blog regularly will remember my post about this years birthday dress. Well the dress turned up a day or two ago but it was a total failure as they had sent me the completely wrong dress!

I'm leaving Korea on 1 September, which is around 6 weeks time (I can't believe how fast the year has gone!) so they isn't much time to replace it either.

However, in the Rock Collection's defence the did say they would reimburse me as soon as the dress is returned.

Which is a little sad, but it's all money I've saved I guess!

In other news, yesterday we picked up our Visa's for Vietnam and Hong Kong. It will be time to leave for our trip very soon - less than one week in fact. I can't wait to get away for a while.

We've pretty much nailed down what we want to do in Hong Kong, the main thing is of course catching up with my old school friend Lillian.

We're a bit more open with what we want to do in Hanoi - we want to got to Halong Bay, but have been told it's much easier to book tours in Hanoi once we get there.

Other than that I am going on a teachers trip with my school at 1:30. There has been much confusion with this trip. Originally I was told we were going "caving" which led me to ask a lot of questions. Yesterday at lunch I was told we were going to a temple and the mountains which is much more my style and sounded great.

But as of yesterday afternoon we are going to the beach and then to a museum - what we are doing at the beach is a little ambiguous still. But I have been told that I must wear my slippers (inside shoes) to the beach - which is a little bit weird for a Kiwi girl but as the saying goes "when in Rome".

I won't have access to a computer for a couple of days whilst I'm on the trip but I should be able to update on Friday to share details of the trip, the films I'm going to be Puchon International Film Festival this weekend and the contents of a rather exciting package of red goodies I received from my friend Jess for my birthday in the mail this week.
