2012 - Year in Review - Part Two

Here's part two of my year in review, its actually pretty fun to do a year in review post, sometimes when you look back at the past year its easy to think that you've done nothing in the past month. However, when you keep a blog you can look back and see you've visited four countries, sewn a whole bunch of dresses and been fire walking the year seems so much more satisfying.

JULY

• Emi and I went to a cupcake decorating class with the Wellington Pink Ladies
• Rich and I went for a walk out to Shelly Bay and visited Westside Studios
• I really wanted a velvet dress, but the only style I could find was baby doll, so I made my own velvet dress
• I went op shopping and bought home an epic pattern haul
• I wore a frock I made for our holiday in Vanuatu in the Wellington Winter
• I celebrated my birthday with a high tea at Martha's Pantry with a bunch of great people
• Because its nice to celebrate your birthday more than once, I also had a vanity case party with some awesome girls
• I made a dress, but I didn't love it, so I gave it away on my blog
• I did an outfit post featuring all the birthday presents I received from Rich

AUGUST 

• I made myself a cute A-line skirt from folksy fabric
• I started using instgram and regularly did weekly instagram posts - although I got a little slack with these by the end of the year
• I went to check out Emi's stall at Vic Peaks Market
• I made a strawberry birthday dress for my niece Sophiia
• Jess, Celia, Katrina and I went out for a fancy high tea at the James Cook Hotel
• I made a dress from fabric that looked a little bit like a quilt
• I blogged about my struggle with endometriosis 

   SEPTEMBER  

• I took a day trip to Wanganui to visit my friend Taane 
• I made a dress with the horse fabric I picked up at fabric-a-brac earlier in the year
• I needed to go up to Auckland for work, so I spend the whole weekend up there and caught up with friends and had fun times
• I did a post about why its rad to live in New Zealand
• I made a dress from aztec fabric 

OCTOBER

• We began to enjoy the spring sunshine!
• I signed up for the 12 days of Christmas Swop
• I did a post about places I've traveled to so far and why I love to travel and I let you all know my 2013 travel plans - USA here I come!
• I made a patchwork scarf for Rich's mum's birthday present
• I did my annual 13 days of Halloween swap with Vany!
• We spent Labour Day in the sunshine
• I walked to Evans Bay to have high tea at Soi with Jess, Celia and Katrina 
• We went to see the tulips at the botanical gardens and then went to check out the Chinese lantern festival at the same time
• I made a quilt for my nephew Lukah's birthday 

NOVEMBER

• I decided to do a Halloween outfit post
• I made a "Singapore Skirt" with some fabric I bought in Singapore - its pink with stars!
• We celebrated Guy Fawkes by checking out the annual fireworks display the council puts on at the Wellington Waterfront
• We ate the zombie brains Vany sent us!
• Ria invited me to the Toi Whakaari Showcase to check out what she's been up to in her costuming course - it was incredible!
• I made another A-line skirt and up-cycled top and received a whole bunch of vintage patterns from Vix
• I posted about the things I made for the 13 Days of Halloween Swap

DECEMBER

• I attended the hobbit market with Rich and then went to a fundraising high tea with Ria - all in one busy Sunday!
• Emi and I went to Dr Grordbort's Exceptional Exhibition
• The second day of summer with full of wind and rain - but that's no barrier to enjoying the day
• I began opening my 12 Days of Christmas Swop packages
• Ria and I went to the Hanukkah celebrations in Civic Square and met the mayor
• Rich and I went to Shirt Stock and visited Te Papa to see the Gingerbread House - there were also some trolls from the Hobbit Premier on display
• I made a wrap around dress and realised a wrap around dress should really be made from fabric with a little stretch!
• Ria and I had a wee pre-Christmas celebration
• Rich and I went to check out the city Christmas tree on a very weird and misty Wellington day

HAPPY NEW YEARS - Year in review part one.

Hello World! I've been absent for a while as we have been in Taranaki for over a week now - first of all we spent a few days with my family for Christmas and then we spent four days with friends at the beach.

I have loads of stories and photos from our time away - but I thought first up I would do a 2012 year in review type post before its too late to do such a thing.

I must say that overall 2012 was a pretty rad year for me, much better than 2011 which I wasn't crazy about. I'm thinking positive and hoping that 2013 will be even better (I already have some exciting adventures planned for this year). So here's a quick look at what happened in the first six months of 2012 (the year of the Mayan Apocalypse) - its been a pretty big year for me, so I'll be doing this blog post in two parts.

JANUARY

• During my Christmas/Summer holidays I completed making my "Space" and "Snake" dresses - I haven't worn my snake dress for a while, but my space dress is still on high rotation in my wardrobe
• Rich and I did the Wellington City to Sea Walkway
• I received some handmade creepy cute softies from Meg
• I completed my Shark Dress - this is another dress that still gets a lot of wear a year later
• I began my first solo overseas holiday starting out in Kuala Lumpur and then traveling onto Phuket for my cousin Mel's wedding

FEBRUARY

• I kept on traveling and visited Singapore, where the lovely Chloe made my visit a total blast
• I made a strawberry frock with fabric bought from a market in Singapore
• We attended the wedding of one of our best friends Ross in Onaero and had the best time staying at a beach house with a bunch of close friends.

 MARCH

 

•  The "weatherbomb" hit Wellington - so I crafted with Emi, made a zombie brain jelly and went to the Newtown Fair
• I attended the "Second Chance Fashion Sale" with the Wellington Pink Ladies
• I started wearing my new glasses pretty much full time - now I think I look weird when I'm not wearing them!
• I attended not just one, but two clothes swaps and picks up loads of rad things!
• I received a lovely package in the mail from Curtise
• Rich and I had a blast visiting the Weta Cave and Roxy Cinema
• I made an autumnal frock!

APRIL

• I received a package of awesome from Alicia
• Rich and I went to the Inverlochy House open day and drew on chalkboards
• I made a dress from an old duvet cover
• On Easter Saturday Rich and I walked from the Wellington Waterfront to Kilbirnie in the sunshine
• I also made a dress from some vintage fabric my mum sent me that she had picked up in an op shop
• shared some pictures of the shoe clips that I made for Olivia
• Ria and I went to Armageddon dressed as Princess Bubblegum and Fiona- both our costumes were DIY of course!
• Rich and I visited the Truby King Memorial Gardens on Anzac day
• Holy Crap - we quite literally went fire walking

MAY 

• Emi and I were pin-up models for a day!
• I received another package of awesome from Alicia
• I went to fabric-a-brac and picked up some treasures including horse fabric
• I made a skirt from musical note fabric and a Sailor Moon wrap around skirt
• I tried to do "Made By Me May" and it didn't work out as well as I hoped it would - but I'll try again this year. 

JUNE 

• I received amazing packages in the mail from both Vany and Olivia - so many creepy cute goodies!
• Rich and I celebrated TEN YEARS OF AWESOME!
• I attended Handmade Wellington and made some marbelled paper and a hand carved stamp
• We played mini-golf over Queens Birthday weekend with Nankz
• I blogged a little about my healthy eating and exercise progress over the past year or so
• Rich and I spent a week in the happiest country in the world - Vanuatu!
