Last week I was supposed to do a "Sew-a-long" with Meg, but that didn't turn out, due to all my lady problems. Over the weekend I felt like making something - but I wasn't quite up to sewing my "Chloe Dress" (I have now started it - yah!).
So instead I made the super simple "date dress" from
Simple and Chic Sewing - the date dress is actually the dress on the cover of the book. It's basically two rectangles sewn together - with a bit of casing along the top. I found the casing to be a little lose, so I added some elastic to keep it firm.
If you've been following my blog for a while - you'll know how much I LOVE a good novelty print. I decided to use this horse fabric I bought at the last fabric-a-brac in Wellington.
When this dress was finished - it had pretty much no shape, but I kind of knew that would happen. Given that it's made up of two rectangles. The dress pattern includes a sash for shape, but I decided not to make it as I already have a whole bunch of belts in my wardrobe (I wear a belt pretty much every day).
I decided to wear the dress with a cardi over top - it's may be spring, but its still pretty cool. Also the cardi helps to tone done the extreme horsey print. I added the white belt for a bit more definition.
Oh dear - I have red eyes in the photo like a crazy lady! Here's what the final dress looked like. I'm still not convinced that I like it - but I was having a bit of a bleh day on Monday - so perhaps its just a case of bad day, bad photo. What do you all think?
