Election Night of Horror - Part one - Cemetary Cake

Last weekend some of my friends held an election night horror party (well it was actually a delayed Halloween party - I decided I would call it an election night of horror party) and I made a cake for it.

Using my mum's chocolate mud cake recipe I came up with a cemetary cake which I was very happy with, as you can see, by the crazy number of photo's I took!

Ohhh....Shiney things

So as most people know, I'm not a huge fan of "traditional" jewellery - I'll take a zombie pendant and barbie shoe earrings any day over a diamond ring and gold charm bracelet.

However, recently my lovely friend in Brisbane Ange sent me a link to a NZ website called Meadowlark (http://www.meadowlark.co.nz/) which sells the most amazing gold and silver jewellery in designs I would actually wear! The have bones, anchors, knives and swallows.

So if you're thinking of what to get me for Christmas and are feeling super generous (go on you know you want to) click on meadowlark! I especially love the bone ring.

My skates are on their way...

Finally after a flurry of e-mail to sin city skates and measuring my feet at the right time of day in the right kind of way (At night, with socks on ) a pair of too cool for school roller derby skates are on their way to me.

I originally wanted a pair of black skates with hot pink flames up the side but they had all sold out but black skates with blue flames up the side are as equally cool and as my friend said Blue burns hotter than red!
So I now have a pair of skates, a set of outdoor wheels and a toolkit coming my way from America!

I also just had to share the little message that popped up on my screen once I had made my (rather pricey) purchase.

It's election time!

For those of you who have been asleep, tomorrow is the NZ General Election.

For the last 8 weeks Aro Valley and Wellington central in general has been saturated with election hoardings and current and want-to-be politicians.

But as my neighbourhood is a bit unique, the locals have take their own spin on things, turns out people round her don't like Stephen Franks or National too much but they are just wild about moth.

Why I live on top of a hill...

I'm sure many sane people wonder why Rich & I chose to live in a flat up such a steep hill. It's a very logical question, especially when we don't own a car of any sort and no bus goes anywhere near our house.

The main reason I wanted to rent our flat was because of the amazing deck and the view. This was the view from our deck yesterday just before I left for work.

This one is a view from the road as I was walking down the hill to walk, which also isn't too bad.

So living up the top of a crazy steep hill isn't too bad right? Although I'm sure most people think it's insane that car free types such as ourselves would chose to live at the top of such a steep hill.

Latest Earring Creations

So here's a few pairs of earrings I've made with some charms I recently got sent over from the states.

Firstly the "Hamburger" earrings - they actually look a whole lot more like hamburgers when you see them in "real life"
Watering can earrings - these are so tiny but would be great for someone who loves to garden.

Toothpaste earrings - they are cute - but also remind you to brush twice a day and go to the dentist.

Shaker earrings with die inside - good for a casino night or just because they are SO darn cute!

Tiny Pepsi cans! I'm not a fan of the fizzy stuff myself (of any description) but there's something about tiny things which make them adorable.

This photo is a bit dark but there's a little dog in the kennel and it says "in the doghouse" above.

Crafty Foxes Swap Number two! Bag Swap!

Last Wednesday night my craft group had our second ever craft swap - basic premise being you make a whole bunch of stuff for your partner and then you swap over and everyone receives a stash of crafty goodness.

My partner this time was Grace and here's the crafty goodies that I made for her...

Firstly a hat which I made from an old jersey - looks a lot cooler on than in this picture!

The actual bag was made from two old t-shirts - it didn't turn out as well as I hope - the sewing machine ate the fabric a lot when I was sewing it!

Monster made from bits & pieces of scrap fabric I have - I think that Grace may have named him Fabio.

Just some earrings from gumball charms and barbie shoes - my signature craft!

A "Jar of Whimsies" for future craft inspiration - some beads, charms and other odds and ends I thought could be useful in projects.

Another one of my signature crafts - a flower brooch made from recycled stockings (stockings with ladders in them).
A skull jewellery set - skull earrings and a skull and star necklace. I have hundreds of the skull charms as my mum bought back a huge bag from a recent trip to Australia.

I also customised a deck of cards into 52 reasons Craft rocks! Here's a few of the cards:

I received my swap stash from Hiliare - here's my stash. Some tasty treats - some hokey pokey and green fudge!

A USB stick with all sorts of creepy and Halloween music on it.
Hair ties with lots of ribbons attached for when I get good enough to actually play derby!

A fantastic little purse made over from the leftover ties...

Used for making most amazing handbag ever!

Later on in the evening - Hiliare, Iris and I also decided to carve some oranges...here's the results.
