On the second week on my "making the apartment an nicer place to live" resolution the lighting in the apartment got a bit of a shake up - although this wasn't my original intention.
This week Rich and I headed to Japan City (cute little Japanese import store) as I'd seen some cute monkey hooks that I thought we could add to our bathroom to hang towels from. Unfortunately the wee monkey hooks were all gone.
But whilst we were there we saw that they had LOADS of paper lanterns on sale for a really good price (the ones we bought were $5 each).
I've always loved paper lanterns and the light fittings that were in the apartment when we rented it were very boring. I'm pretty sure this is the standard "light fitting landlords always buy for their properties".
Well this lampshade and three others just like it are sitting in the storage cupboard (well after the mountain of dust was cleared off them). They have been replaced by these lanterns - for now at least - upon our departure the standard boring fittings will return.
We bought three white lanterns - each with a slightly different floral design. I think they are just so pretty! I was a bit worried at first that the light might not be as good with these lanterns, which could make crafting and studying a bit more difficult. However the light in our bedroom is actually better with the lantern than it was with the standard light shade.
Hope you've all been having a good weekend!

Great idea, an inexpensive and easy way to make a change to your apartment. xxxx
Oh I love paper lanterns! They actually seem to diffuse the light, making it less harsh as opposed to the naked light bulb :)
These is really cool and so you! I love the soft lighting of a paper lamp.
What a great way to make your apartment more of a home. We live with the joys of renting as well which means we can't make any permanent changes either. I LOVED the cross-stitch the other week too. What a clever metro-man you have there! Xx
