First make of 2014: The Alicia Dress!

This dress is inspired by one of my dearest friends, Alicia! (its too bad she lives on the other side of the world).
The Alicia dress - its full of things Alicia loves! Cupcakes, pink and general adorableness.
I made the pattern from a book called Sew Serendipity - the book has three basic patterns then a whole lot of different ways to alter each. The patterns are a skirt, dress and coat. I made the basic dress pattern and I'm keen to make it again but use some of the alternations in the book. I particularly like the idea of adding a frill at the bottom and a tie around the waist.

I bought Sew Serendipity whilst I was staying at Alicia's house and she took me to a whole bunch of HUGE shops in the USA. Seriously, shops were just so much bigger than here. We went to the local Barnes and Noble so I could check out the craft/sewing books and I bought Sew Serendipity. That was last April and I've only made something from it now - better late than never.

Here's a close up of the fabric the dress is made of - my friend Conor said it's like a picnic blanket covered in cupcakes.
I decided to wear the dress to my first day of work on Monday - seems like my new tradition is to wear a new made by me garment to the first day of work for the year.
I hope you're all having a good week - its been pretty hard going back to work after nearly two weeks off, but I'm getting back into the swing of things (I think).

A dress made especially dedicated to a friend? How nice :)
I think we should start this new tradition! Was so pleased with myself for finishing the knitted dress before New Year's Day.
Actually, imagine sewing a dress every month to celebrate the beginning of a new month... That gives us 12 new dresses a year. Uff!

It's so dull and dreich over here, I'm finding it quite hard to get back into the swing of things too. I think you've got best idea though, getting on the the sewing machine & making a fabulous frock is by far the best way to fend off those January blues. It looks lovely on you and I really dig that funky fabric.
Thank you for your comment over on my blog, made me feel very welcome back :)
Hope you are having a fantastic weekend. xXx
