Hong Kong!

After leaving Vietnam, Rich and I spent a few days in Hong Kong. I've always wanted to visit Hong Kong and I was especially excited as I got to catch up with my old friend Lillian whilst I was there.

There's a whole lot to see and do in Hong Kong, we didn't get to see and do everything we wanted. But we did get to do quite a lot of stuff. Here's some of my favourite things in Hong Kong.

On the day we arrived, Rich and I went and checked out the harbour in Hong Kong. We were staying on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong. We also checked out the "avenue of stars" which is a walkway on the harbour front which pays homage to Hong Kong's movie stars.








On our first full day in Hong Kong we decided to ride the Ngong Ping Cable car to the Po Lin Monastery and see the giant Buddha they have at the Monastery. I thought the giant Buddha was incredible. I was also really interested to find out that the Buddha has only been constructed quite recently. I have visited a lot of temples and Buddha's before but they are usually very old - it was interesting to see a more modern Buddha. It was also so great to eat an amazing vegetarian lunch at the monastery - even if we hardly made a dent in our giant meal!
























In the afternoon, Rich and I rode the longest escalator in the world on the Hong Kong side, unfortunatly when you reach the top there isn't anything! I was hoping for a look out or something. But here's some of the sights we saw along the way.




On our way back to Kowloon we stumbled across a lot of interesting stuff, including an antique market where a lot of the vendors were selling Mao era communist propaganda. This was simmilar or the same as some of the stuff I saw in Shanghai and I didn't really expect to see this kind of stuff in Hong Kong. I bought a bracelet at the market made from majong pieces - well actually I paid for it, but Rich bought it, he did the bartering for me as I hate bartering!






That night we met up with my friend Lillan again, she took us to an awesome vegetarian restaurant. Then we went for a walk near the waterfront to check out the lights and finished off the night with some Chinese desserts. It was so great to catch up after all these years!

Well that brings our Hong Kong adventures to an end as our last full day in Hong Kong was actually spent in Macau. Hong Kong is such an amazing place, I really hope we can go back again soon and see more of it.
