Well look I made another thing! Well actually I made this thing a while back, I just didn't have a chance to blog about it. I finished it up the last week of Me Made May but all you folks got to see was this selfie, because by the end of the month I was SO SICK of all of the photos.
So this dress is more of the same in some ways - I made this dress from the Laurel pattern by Colette Patterns. You guys have seen so many versions on this pattern already, but what the hell. I like it and it works for me, I'm pretty sure there will be more and more versions of this dress in the future!
So I SHOULD have straightened the frock up a bit before asking Rich to take the photo! But you guys can see the dress - I think its cute. Also we ALWAYS have a football in our lounge, its not just for the Football World Cup.
This fabric may look familiar to some of you, it was one of my sweet scores from the Island Bay fabric fair. I STILL need to make something with the magnificent 90s computer fabric I bought on that day.
Here's a close up of the fabric - you can see why I call it my dragon lady dress right?
Also you may have noticed I'm NOT wearing my trusty brown Avon winter boots in these photos - WAHHHH?? I bought a new pair of winter boots and they are black and are super comfy. Hurrah.
Oh yeah and the passport - so apparently its been approved! I rang the passports office last night as I have been thinking about it a bit (AKA freaking out). They told me it has been approved and there is no reason I won't have it by the end of the week. Next Monday at the very latest. So everything should be fine - but I DO fly out on the 26th of June! At least I'm still smiling right?
Hope you all have a good week! PS - I totally know the neckline doesn't fit that great - but I kind of don't care, life's too short!

Mask Print Laurel Dress
It's been long weekend here due to Wellington Anniversary day - unfortunately the gift we received today was another earthquake, I was at Ria's house for the afternoon sewing and the earthquake wasn't too bad - but it went on for a LONG time. We are all safe and well, but it does seem like there was some damage in other parts in the country.
I think that's enough about earthquakes for now - lets talk about more important things like sewing. I have had a pretty productive weekend sewing, I completed another Laurel dress and I thought I'd share it with you all as I think it looks pretty darn good.
Ria lives out at Breaker Bay - so her view is a little nicer than our car park which is overgrown with weeds!
I found this fabric at the Arthur Toye closing down sale (the last day is 31 January - I'm so sad to say goodbye) on Friday and decided I MUST have it. I guess I MUST have loved it more than I thought as I bought it on Friday, washed and pressed it on Saturday and cut out and sewed up the dress on Sunday.
The other projects I have been working on over the weekend have been a version of Christine Haynes Derby Dress made from very cute squirrel fabric. This frock is MOSTLY sewn up, which is good as I plan to wear it to a Wellington Sewing Bloggers Network event next weekend. I also cut out a simple blue wrap dress in from a vogue pattern that my mum sent me.
Hope you've all had a great, creative, earthquake free weekend!

Purple Laurel Dress
So guys the last few days have pretty much been the worst - I had a three day sinus headache which spanned the WHOLE weekend. I had things I was meant to do, like attend the Wellington Sewing Bloggers one year anniversary dinner and did pretty much nothing apart from sleep, eat fruji iceblocks and feel gross.
The most annoying thing about this wasted weekend was that I didn't get to wear the new Laurel dress I made to the Wellington Sewing Bloggers dinner. This is the second Laurel dress I have made, you can see the first one here. It's a simple 1960s styled dress - which is just MY style if you know what I mean? I'm much more in the whole 1960s/1970s look (with a big soft spot for the 1980s as well).
As I didn't make it to the bloggers dinner I couldn't ask my sewing blogger pals to take a picture, so instead I got Rich to take a photo or two. These photos were taken near what we call the "Skeleton House" - although I'm sure it has a real name and was made by some fancy artist.
Here's a photo of me, in my new Laurel dress by the skeleton house. You can't see the dress that well - the sun is kind of bright! Also my slip is peaking out from underneath - I'm sure that's a major fashion faux pa, oh well just as well I don't care about fashion.
A close up of my tights and that lovely fabric - I bought this at the most recent fabric-a-brac (I will post more about the event at another time).
Here's another shot of the dress - inside the apartment this time, the lighting isn't so great - but you get the picture. Complete with Rich's guitar case to the left and my ironing board to the right. It's my ironing board as the only reason an ironing board gets used in our flat is sewing.
I hope you've all been having a lovely week and I hope that by the time you're reading this my headache is well and truly gone (or I may be having a wee bit of a meltdown).

Laurel Dress
So confession time - this is my second Laurel dress, the first one I made was made to my measurements on the pattern envelope but it was RIDICULOUSLY big I couldn't wear it. I sent it straight to Recycle Boutique, I couldn't be bothered mucking about and changing the whole frock - I just didn't love it that much.
This version is A LOT better - although seeing these photos I have decided next time I wear it some BRIGHT lipstick is required so the dress print doesn't was me out completely.
I still feel like the shoulders of this dress are a bit big for me - which is so weird! I kind of have the shoulders of a rugby player, so for the shoulders to be so big isn't something I'm used to. I bought this fabric earlier this year at fabric-a-brac and it was just crying out for a sixties look frock.
I am SO HAPPY to have this frock finished - it's one that's kind of been hanging about for AGES not doing much. I actually thought I hated it, but seeing these photos I do think its kind of fun - I may even make the Laurel dress again. Hope you've all been having a lovely weekend!
