So confession time - this is my second Laurel dress, the first one I made was made to my measurements on the pattern envelope but it was RIDICULOUSLY big I couldn't wear it. I sent it straight to Recycle Boutique, I couldn't be bothered mucking about and changing the whole frock - I just didn't love it that much.
This version is A LOT better - although seeing these photos I have decided next time I wear it some BRIGHT lipstick is required so the dress print doesn't was me out completely.
I still feel like the shoulders of this dress are a bit big for me - which is so weird! I kind of have the shoulders of a rugby player, so for the shoulders to be so big isn't something I'm used to. I bought this fabric earlier this year at fabric-a-brac and it was just crying out for a sixties look frock.
I am SO HAPPY to have this frock finished - it's one that's kind of been hanging about for AGES not doing much. I actually thought I hated it, but seeing these photos I do think its kind of fun - I may even make the Laurel dress again. Hope you've all been having a lovely weekend!
I love this one. That fabric is divine! It was meant to be a 60's kinda dress. I love the shape on you & the shoulders look fine to me. Well done! Xx

ReplyDeleteYay! Good job. I've been coveting the Laurel shift dress pattern for a while now, and I am agreeing with you on this rad 60's print.
ReplyDeleteInteresting to hear you mention about the shoulders... But the puffy sleeves seem to work.
what a perfect dress for that amazing print! i love it with the basic black tights too! <3
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fantastic, I'd buy that like a shot, the fabric and cut are stunning and you look wonderful. xxx
ReplyDeleteWOOHOO! I love it, it's the BESTEST fabric! I hate when the measurements are right but it doesn't bloody fit! I'm too lazy to make toiles......!!

I would so do that as well, ditch the first attempt and start again! Well worth it, the dress looks great. I quite like the shoulders, they seem to balance the dress.
ReplyDeleteThe perfect pattern of that fabric! I'm glad you had another go :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous dress honey especially the fabric! Maybe make those sleeves a tad bit shorter and I think they would be perfect.
